WHAT IS A 'LEARNING JOURNEY?'

When we first meet new parents we begin by asking you to complete Entry Details and an Initial Child Profile (All About Me). This provides us with information on the levels of development and learning that your child has reached by the time he/she starts at the Oasis nursery.

The abilities and skills of all children vary and the information we gain from the Initial Child Profile will ensure that we can effectively build on each child's skills. We will then access them termly, recording achievements and levels of development in the seven aspects of Learning and Development.

 

They are:

 

*Personal, Social and Emotional Development

*Physical Development 

*Communication and Language

*Literacy

*Mathematics

*Understanding the World

*Expressive Arts and Design

 

The assessments are ongoing, carried out informally and carried out within the structure of the child's normal daily activities.

Each child's development is unique and special. That is why we create an individual record for each child in our group through a Learning Journey Book. This is the record kept charting your child's progress in all areas of their development. It is a written document carried out from observations of the child and is supported by photographs.

You are welcome to view your child's 'Learning Journey' at any time. Your child's key person will share with you the planning put in place which has come from your child's interests and activities he/she is enjoying at the nursery. Remember to keep us updated about what they are enjoying at home, either verbally or through the daily diaries.

The learning journey is a great tool which enables you to get an insight into what your child is doing and what they enjoy. The file will be given to you to keep when your child leaves - a lovely record of their time at The Oasis.
